IS3.2 Ultra-low radiation testing facility

Infrastructure:

The underground laboratory at shallow depth shields against the hadronic components of cosmic rays. It hosts various material screening stations and detector setups including a 1ton liquid argon detector test stand (SCARF), several low-background shielded HPGe detectors,  silicon detectors,  delution refrigerators, cryogenic and liquid scintillator teststands

Typical applications: development and commissioning of novel detectors for astroparticle physics experiments; material screening by low-background gamma ray spectrometry

An ISO7 Clean Room located at a shallow depth to shield against cosmic rays activation of detector materials; equipped with ball/wetch bonder for electrical contacting of detector systems and photo lithography for thin film processing

Typical applications: assembly of high purity detector systems shielded against cosmic ray radiation; structuring of high-purity thin films

Low-background high-purity germanium detector systems for material screening with mBq/kg sensitivities

Typical applications: Astroparticle physics experiments are typically constructed from selected high-purity materials. All components undergo a careful screening with respect to their intrinsic radioactive trace contaminations.
