Before the trial registration ...

Before you register a project at GHL, ... here's some important info ahead of time!

You will move around and work independently in the test facilities. For this reason, we are obligated to inform you about specific issues of occupational safety. As the person responsible for this project, you are also obliged to ensure that all persons working on your project know and follow the guidelines and rules of conduct (it is best to have this confirmed in writing). In this regard, there are two guidelines, knowledge of which you must acknowledge on the registration form each time you register for a trial. These are the forms:

(1)  Occupational safety at GHL for project partners (Annex 10)

(2)  „S1 Guideline for GHL user“ (Annex 5)

The first appendix is designed to prevent accidents, personal injury and property damage. It deals with regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance, the Industrial Safety and Health Ordinance, the Hazardous Substances Ordinance and the "Principles of Prevention".

Annex-5 regulates the behavior in S1 plants. Most of the experimental units (greenhouses, climate chambers, ...) are approved for experiments with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by the Government of Upper Bavaria and under the supervision of HR-6 (University Department 6 for Health, Safety and Radiation Protection). At GHL we have four facilities of safety level 1 (S1 facilities = lowest safety level). The operation of such facilities is associated with special obligations that are regulated nationwide in the Genetic Engineering Act and are regularly reviewed by official bodies. Even if you as the person responsible for the project do not work with GMOs, you are still in an S1 facility. For this reason, access is only possible with an activated staff or student card (activation via Robert Hansel or Stefan Kolbinger). Since you are in an S1 facility on your own and also have access at any time, you must be instructed regarding the applicable rights and duties in S1 facilities. For this purpose, you must be familiar with the passages in the S1 Guide that apply to you and behave accordingly in the facilities.

On the registration form, you confirm with your signature that you have understood all points and will behave in accordance with the operating instructions.

If the contents of these instructions are known, the experiment can be registered. To find the appropriate registration form (registration form ANNEX-9), please distinguish whether you will work with natural plants or with GMO plants. For projects with GMOs, there is a further distinction whether the experiment will run with a constant set of plants (fixed-GMO stocking) or with dynamic-changing-GMO stocking (changing GMO inputs and outputs during the experiment).  Open the appropriate form and fill it out as accurately as possible so that we can run your experiment as precisely as you envision and as technical limitations allow (we will also be happy to help you fill it out).
