About us

The Plant Technology Center (PTC) was established in 2020 as a Tech Core Facility of the Technical University of Munich to create an interdisciplinary platform for cutting-edge research in experimental plant sciences. With our three units—the Field Crops Unit, the Greenhouses & Phytochambers Unit, and the Forest Research Unit – we combine expertise from agricultural research, forestry, biology, and ecology under one roof. This allows us to offer not only advanced research infrastructure to TUM scientists and external collaborators, but also a platform for sharing ideas, methodologies, and measurement systems.
Our dedicated team of scientists, engineers, and technical and agronomic specialists supports both basic and applied research in fields such as molecular biology, plant physiology, ecology, and agricultural technology. Our state-of-the-art greenhouses, climate chambers, and field sites enable precise experiments under controlled conditions as well as realistic field studies. Working closely with researchers, we are committed to the One Health approach of the TUM School of Life Sciences, developing sustainable solutions to global challenges such as food security and climate change.
Our Team
The PTC team brings together experts from a wide range of disciplines, including scientists, engineers, technicians, horticulturists, agricultural engineers, and administrative staff. Together, we combine our knowledge and experience across key fields such as biology, ecology, agricultural sciences, horticulture, and forestry. We support researchers in conducting scientific experiments and provide both our expertise and infrastructure to facilitate their work.
Our team works hand in hand to implement both established and innovative experiments. Our technicians ensure precise and efficient trial operations, while our horticultural and agricultural specialists contribute valuable expertise in crop management and cultivation techniques. In this way, we create optimal conditions for scientific progress and applied solutions.
